  Update on "helping hand"

  thanks to eveyone who responded with encouraging comments!

  i had a great conversation with the red cross today regarding hosting refugees.

  as of this morning, they were massively mobilizing for immediate life saving but will be puting up another hotline and advertizing for sponsors/hosts.

  This would be neat, being able to help someone, who has nothing, start new, in a beautiful state, with a clean fresh start. I think you are wonderful!! My parents took care of foster children. Adults would be so much different. hl

  Do any white people live in New Orleans?

  i've never been there myself, but every single person being shown on the news is black.

  wading through the streets, stranded on rooftops, etc.

  i'm not sure if the media is just focusing on certain areas of new orleans or if it's a predominantly african american city.. the only footage i've seen other than this has been mardi gras and that consists mostly of tourists.

  i am somewhat taken back.

  after 10 years of my sister refusing to tell me where she lived, i got a message on my answering machine from my brother ( who i haven't talked to in years ) saying that ma has moved in with my sister and gave me the adress.

  I am sorry to hear about your mother. Go and visit. Spend time with your mother. And, I'm sorry to say this, "Take your checkbook". Since you are not in the "truth", they might as well include you in their reindeer games, only if you bring money to help with expenses with mom. And drain you dry.

  When they ask you for money, If you say no, you will be just a sorry SOB apostate, they will surely never talk to again. Who didn't even love your own mother.

  If you take out your checkbook, You will be playing right into their hands. HL

  i have not disassociated myself or been disfellowshipped.

  i chose to move 700+ miles from my jw family over 12 years ago.

  He is way too young. But, this is nothing new to teenagers now days. The county I live in, has the highest pregnancy rates in the state. My first thought was, that it is your son, he has not really been exposed to the witnesses. So even though they may be shocked, its a little baby girl!! Then I realized that you live several hundred miles from them. That may be an excuse for them. Maybe you all could go visit, and see home.

  With all of this said, my parents live 180 miles away, my daughter is 14, and I could count on my fingers and maybe a few toes, how many times they have seen her. Oh how I wish there were never such a thing as a JW. Congratulations on (almost) getting a granddaughter, Spoil her rotten... HL

  okay, let's say you find yourself in the big easy.

  no lights, no phone, no motorcar, not a single luxury.. you have kids, you have yourself.

  everyone is hungry, and thirsty, and drinking the water will kill you (even walking around in it isn't real safe.).

  I have never stolen anything in my life, except a piece of bubble gum I really did forget to pay for as a little girl. I really don't know if I could. I could see myself, as Upside/Down said in an earlier thread, writing a note for an IOU. My conscience could probably live with that. HL

  With all we have seen on TV today, seeing your pictures was wonderful!!! You have a beautiful family. I loved Jack's face, in the picture with you and Lily, with his arms up in the air. He looks like he won the lottery!!! Thanks for sharing HL
